New track is the fourth single from the rapper’s forthcoming ‘Marshall Mathers LP 2′

Earlier today, Eminem released an upbeat, pop-oriented new single titled “The Monster” that features the rapper’s “Love the Way You Lie” collaborator Rihanna on the chorus. It’s the fourth track he’s released so far from his forthcoming album The Marshall Mathers LP 2, due out November 5th. The single will be available on iTunes beginning at midnight.

Eminem Exclusive: Slim Shady on His New LP

The song opens with Rihanna proclaiming she gets along with voices in her head, as part of what she described as a “monster hook” after she recorded it in September. Eminem also talks about going crazy, or rather, “going kooky as Kool Keith.” Later, the R&B singer adds some catchy woo-hoos to the synth-heavy chorus and Eminem drifts subjects from “taking it back to the days that I’d get on a Dre track” to needing a straightjacket.

Earlier this year, Eminem told Rolling Stone that, despite the fact that the rapper has previously collaborated with Rihanna and that it is titled The Marshall Mathers LP 2, it’s “not necessarily a sequel, as much as it is a revisitation.” He clarified what he meant by saying, “To me, it’s more about the vibe, and it’s more about the nostalgia.”

Today marks the start of a busy week for Em. This Saturday, November 2nd, he will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live and Tuesday, November 5th, he’ll answer fans’ questions as part of SiriusXM’s Town Hall With Eminem
