Jakarta, Sep 21 (IANS) The Indian embassy here will Sep 23 launch a series of events under the theme ‘Weave of Friendship’ to celebrate the centenary year of Indian cinema.

The celebrations will be held Sep 23-27. The five-day gala will have a Ramayana cultural show, fashion show depicting Ikat tradition, film poster exhibition, film seminar, screening of iconic films and a musical performance by famous Bollywood trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

The entry to most of the events is free.

The festival has India’s national bird peacock as its logo, and it aims to signify the multi-dimensional beauty and pride of Indian cinema.

A grand fashion show by Indonesian designer Didet Maulana, who will showcase Indonesian and Indian Ikat through his designs, will kick off the fest.

The first Indian feature film, “Raja Harishchandra“, will also be shown on the occasion along with a short documentary celebrating 100 years of Indian Cinema brought out by the Directorate of Film Festivals, India.

On the sidelines of the show, there will be an exhibition of posters of Indian films over the years. The exhibition will be held in the Four Seasons Hotel foyer from Sep 23-25 and will be open to the public.

A selection of 15 iconic Indian films, including Karan Johar’s “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, will be screened at the festival.

A seminar ‘Our Films, Their Films’ will be organised on the third day of the festival. It will explore the untapped potential that exists between the Indian and Indonesian film industries.
